Question
First course treatment/Chemotherapy: If a specific primary site/histology is listed in SEER*Rx for a given drug, are we only allowed to code that drug as treatment for only those identified Primary Sites/Histologies? See discussion.

Discussion
A patient has a diagnosis of CML in 2008 followed by a diagnosis of CLL in 2011. The patient started nilotinib in 10/2011 for the CML (per physician statement). SEER*Rx lists CML and GIST only as primary site/histology combinations for nilotinib. Can nilotinib be coded as treatment for the CLL primary?

Answer
SEER*Rx lists the approved sites/histologies for each drug. If you have a physician statement documenting that the drug was given for another site/histology, code as treatment for that site/histology.
